Hopefully everyone had a very special summer, enjoyed a vacation worth talking about, and came through with great health and lots of joy.
Kathy and I vacationed again in WA state, where we enjoyed cool weather in late June in the lovely community of Bellingham and then drove to Olympic National Park. If you have not been to that park, we recommend it. Multiple ecosystems, breathtaking vistas in the peaks, and wildlife everywhere. A few weeks later, all our family traveled to VA for two family reunions; one Dudley and one Hodge. As the years add up, connecting with family members we only see every few years is just a blessing and this trip was really special.
Now that school is beginning again, I encourage our awareness be directed towards the needs of the children. Events like this past week that frighten communities and blaze across the television screens, also frighten children. Are they thinking; is school a safe place to learn and just be a kid? Listen to them, observe, and pay attention. We don’t want to create unnecessary angst, but just love on them and be aware. If you are able, consider volunteering at a school. There are great programs available where you can plug in.

Addressing the Workforce Skills Gap in Construction & CRE-Related Trades
|
The NAIOP Research Foundation does excellent work in providing substantive information to the commercial real estate industry on subjects of relevancy. Few would argue that the ongoing skilled labor shortages in construction and warehousing have created serious profitability issues for real estate owners. The ongoing political battles over immigration have simply heightened this crisis, with the ICE raids of 8-8-19 just an example. While that battle rages in the cavernous halls of Congress, the CRE industry continues to look for permanent solutions.

Addressing the Workforce Skills Gap in Construction and CRE-Related Trades
By: Barry E. Stern, PhD
A shortage of construction and logistics workers has increased the cost of construction for developers and hampered the expansion and profitability of warehouse and distribution centers. The NAIOP Research Foundation commissioned this report to explore some of the contributing factors to the workforce shortage and how the construction and logistics industries can improve worker recruitment, training, productivity and retention. The author interviewed several national and regional workforce development program leaders to learn about their partnerships with industry to recruit and train the next generation of construction and logistics workers.
